How can I identify which screw in choke tubes I should use in my Beretta shotgun: Mobilechoke, Optima-Choke, Optima-Choke Plus, or Optima-Choke HP? Here we present different methods by which you can identify the right choke for your shotgun.

It's important to be absolutely sure about the choice of chokes: always remember that mounting and shooting with the wrong choke can cause severe damage to the gun and harm the person wielding it!

Choke Tubes Identification Methods

There are several chokes available for Beretta shotguns, how can you identify the right one? In fact, it is not that hard as each shotgun only accept one “Family” of chokes in only one Gauge, within those you can choose any model that you like the most (model examples: flush, extended, ported, black edition, etc.)

To better understand, here the main variants of the fundamental data you need:

  • “Family”: Mobile-Choke, Optima-Choke, Optima-Choke Plus, Optima-Choke HP (latest model developed)
  • Gauge: 12, 20, 28, .410

In the following paragraphs, you will discover the best methods to identify the “Family” of chokes compatible with your shotgun (Gauge is considered known by the owner). Those apply independently if they are Overe&Under, Semiauto or SideBySide

1. Visual Method

The fastest way to identify the “Family” is to take down one choke you are currently using on your shotgun, clean it and cheek the markings on the side of the choke, here an example:

In the example image, you see an Optima-Choke HP Choke

Note: Mobile-Choke “Family” could also be marked as “PB” or “ST”

2. Choke Measurement Method

For this method, you will only need your current flush choke and check the measurement from the ending of the thread to the end choke (for extended choke, consider from end of thread to the end of the part inside of the barrel):

3. Barrel Markings Method

For this method, you will only need your shotgun and check the markings near the Gauge mark:

BARREL MARKINGS CHOKE FAMILY
None (Only Gauge marking) Mobil-Choke
OB (immediately adjacent to the gauge marking Optima-Choke
3 1/2" (immediately adjacent to the gauge marking) Optima-Choke Plus
OB HP (immediately adjacent to the gauge marking Optima-Choke HP

Found? Select yours: Mobil-Choke Optima-Choke Optima-Choke Plus Optima-Choke HP

Not Found? Check next method!

4. Serial Number Method

If nothing else works, we can obtain the right choke “Family” from the serial numbers present on your shotgun. In order to do so, you need to send us an email with both:

  • Shotgun serial number

  • Barrels serial number

We will reply as soon as possible, typically a couple of working days. Send the email at: info@berettagalleryusa.com
