Per l’incisione sul lato destro abbiamo scelto Canto III, vv.82 dal libro dell’Inferno:

“Ed ecco verso noi venir per nave
un vecchio, bianco per antico pelo,
gridando: “Guai a voi, anime prave”

For the right side engraving we chose Canto III, vv.82 from the book of Inferno:

“And here he is coming by ship
an old man, white for ancient hair,
crying out: “Woe to you, prave souls”

Per il lato sinistro scegliamo il Canto XXXIII, vv.54 dal Libro delPurgatorio:

“Tu nota; e sì come da me son porte,
così queste parole segna a’ vivi
del viver ch’è un correre a la morte”

For the left side we chose from Canto XXXIII, vv.54 from the bookof Purgatory:

“You notice; and yes as they are doors to
me, so these words marks a ’alive
of living which is a rush to death”

Per il lato inferiore scegliamo il Canto XXXIII, vv.145 dal Libro Paradiso:

“ma già volgeva il mio disio e ‘l velle,
sì come rota ch’igualmente è mossa,
l’amor che move il sole e l’altre stelle”

For the bottom engraving we chose Canto XXXIII, vv.145 from the book of Paradise:

“But my desire was already turning,
yes as a wheel that is similarly moved,
love that moves the sun and other stars”

All’interno della custodia abbiamo cucito a mano l’ultimo verso del poema dal Canto XXXIV, vv.139 dal libro dell’Inferno:

“Tanto ch’i vidi cose belle,
Che porta il ciel, per un pertugio tondo
E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle”

Inside the case we hand-stitched the last line of the poem from Canto XXXIV, vv.139 from the book of Inferno:

“So much so that I saw beautiful things,
Leading the sky, through a round hole
And so we went out to see the stars again”
